Surgery of spine includes treatment of back pain, neck pain, radicular pain, spinal deformity, spinal tumour, disc problem, spine fracture fixation, minimally invasive spine surgery.
Orthopedic surgery includes fixation of fractures, pelvic-acetabulum injuries, tendon repair, nerve release, arthrolysis, non surgical treatments , joint pains, bursitis, frozen shoulder.
Severe arthritis (osteoarthritis) of knee or hip joint may cause restriction and disability to patients. Patients having severe knee pain with varus deformity are candidates for knee or hip replacement surgery.
Injury to knee ligament may include Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), medial collateral ligament (MCL), lateral collateral ligament (LCL), medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) injuries.
Human body has 206 bones. Most common bones to fracture in lower limbs are tibia (leg), fibula (leg), femur ( thigh) , hip fracture (intertrochanteric or transcervical) , Ankle fracture , malleolar fracture, metatarsal fracture (foot bone) or phalanx (toe) fracture.
Disc prolapse or slip disc may cause radicular pain going down arm or leg. It may be associated with numbness or weakness in arm/leg. Rarely it might cause cause equina syndrome too. Treatment includes microscopic or endoscopic disectomy.
Percutaneous endoscopic disc removal using minimally invasive procedure causing minimal post operative pain and scar with possibility to discharge the patient same day.
Congenital (by birth) or developmental deformity (curve) of spine can be corrected through surgery. Various procedures involved are- vertebral column resection (VCR), direct vertebral rotation (DVR), hemivertebra resection, pedicel subtraction osteotomy (PSO)
In young patients presenting with neck pain or radicular pain , having minimal degenerative changes (normal facet joints) total disc replacement is a good option. This (disc replacement) preserves mobility of spine and reduces chances of adjacent segment degeneration (ASD).
